Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is Permanent Lip Color?
A. Permanent lip color is a non-surgical micro-procedure known as
Micropigmentation. Tiny droplets of custom blended colors are skillfully deposited
into the dermal layer of the skin to simulate natural looking or well-defined Make-Up.
This process is a selective art form of traditional tattooing whereby the natural
features of the face are enhanced and defined in the form of permanent eyebrows,
eyeliner and/or lip liner and color. The results are beautiful, immediate and permanent!
A refreshingly, radiant yet natural look is achieved that cannot be duplicated by
traditional cosmetics. Each treatment is as unique as the individual receiving it.
Q. How much does Permanent Lip Color cost?
A. First understand that permanent lip color is not a typical 'beauty
treatment' as in having a manicure or your hair colored. Permanent
lip color is an invasive procedure requiring the utmost in competence
and care. Women can have the procedure done in a hair or nail salon
for as little as $100. However, no state or county government entity
would ever certify this procedure in an environment contaminated by
chemical fumes and hair clippings. Women who choose to save
money are taking unnecessary risks with their health. You should
expect to pay several hundred dollars for a competent, experienced
technician to apply your permanent lip color. This cost is a reflec-
tion of the investment made in education, supplies, equipment and
facilities which ensures your satisfaction and good health.
Q. Is Permanent Lip Color safe?
A. Your technician should perform all procedures with one-time disposable supplies
and follow strict sanitation and sterilization guidelines as required by the Center of
Disease Control (CDC) and OSHA regulations. Superb instrumentation and topical
anesthetics are now available making Permanent Lip Color application a safe
procedure. A color/sensitivity patch test should be made available for those with any
concerns of possible allergic reactions to pigment colors.
Q. Is infection possible?
A. Even with a minor scratch infection is possible. However, there should be no
major complications. You must keep the area clean and follow your after care
instructions carefully.
Q. What color or shape should I chose?
A. You have choices! There is an array of beautiful colors to choose from. Colors
are custom blended then the shape and shading are designed to enhance your unique
features. You can choose a natural tone or an exotic red and everything in between.
Q. How long will the procedure take?
A. The typical permanent lip color procedure will take 1 1/2 to two hours of which
only about 45 minutes is actual tattooing. Design work, time for the topical anesthetic
to take effect and icing down after the procedure account for the remainder of time.
Four to six weeks after the procedure a follow-up or touch-up session should be
scheduled which will usually last less than a half an hour. Most people require at least
one follow-up session.
Q. Is the procedure uncomfortable?
A. Procedures are performed with the most effective topical anesthetics providing
substantial numbing of the area however since lips contain numerous nerve endings,
some will feel slight discomfort when the skin is first broken.
Q. What can I expect after the procedure?
A. Expect slight swelling and redness. Usually the swelling
subsides within 48 hours. Initially, your permanent lip color
will appear darker, brighter and thicker than what it will ultimately
heal to.
Q. How long will my Permanent Lip Color last?
A. If properly applied by a competent technician, your Permanent Lip Color should
last for several years depending on your skin type, sun exposure and how well you
care for it. Over time the color will lighten and you may desire to have the color
refreshed.
Q. Can I wear traditional lipstick over my Permanent Lip Color?
A. Absolutely! However be aware that since you are adding lipstick to already
colored lips, your resultant shade might be slightly different than you're accustomed.
Q. I'm considering Lip Augmentation. Are there any special considerations?
A. Yes, you should have your augmentation procedure before having permanent lip
color. Also, you will want to ensure that your lips have healed for no less than six (6)
months and that your surgeon is aware you desire permanent lip color.
